The only market where the ZIP code is actually knowable

Neighborhood-level repair pricing is usually guesswork, because nobody has enough visits in one ZIP code to say anything. In metro Atlanta we do. 129 local ZIP codes carry at least 30 measured repairs each, against 84 in Tampa Bay, 74 in South Florida, 24 in Jacksonville and 18 in Charlotte.

Across those 129, medians run from 320 dollars in 30601 (Athens) to 465 dollars in 30305 (Atlanta), a factor of 1.45. And the shape of that spread is the surprise.

Metro Atlanta does not have a simple city-center premium. The intown north side sits at the top, which anyone would guess. But Sharpsburg and Tyrone, forty-five miles southwest in Coweta and Fayette counties, sit right alongside it. Meanwhile Smyrna and Kennesaw, well inside the built-up metro, are near the bottom with Athens and Commerce.

What the expensive ZIP codes share is not distance from downtown, it is the appliance mix. The intown north side runs older houses with built-in and premium units. Sharpsburg, Tyrone and east Newnan run large newer houses on acreage with full-size premium kitchens. Both produce repairs that take longer to reach and use parts that are not general stock.

Smyrna and Kennesaw are dense with mid-2000s townhouse and apartment stock running current-production mainstream machines, which is the cheapest thing in the world to fix.

Georgia runs on gas, and it shows in the repairs

Something appears in the metro Atlanta component data that is close to absent everywhere else we work: the oven igniter. Across 121 local repairs involving an igniter, the median total is 357 dollars.

Run the same search across the cooking repairs in our other markets and it collapses. Tampa Bay returns six, Jacksonville two, South Florida none and Charlotte none. Natural gas reaches a far larger share of metro Atlanta kitchens than it does in Florida or the Carolinas, so gas ranges and gas ovens are simply a much bigger part of what we are called out to fix here.

If your gas oven will not light, the igniter is the first thing to suspect and not the gas valve or the control board. A weak igniter is the most common gas oven failure we see: it still glows, so it looks fine, but it no longer draws enough current to open the safety valve.

That is why a gas oven can glow orange for ten minutes and never heat. It is a diagnosis, not a guess, and a technician can confirm it with a clamp meter before any part is ordered.

How to get a same-day visit in metro Atlanta

We cover 181 metro Atlanta communities spread across a radius that runs from Cartersville to Covington and from Cumming to Peachtree City. Same-day windows open as technicians plan their routes across that map, so the first calls of the morning get the widest choice.

What that means practically: call early in the day, and be flexible about the window rather than the day. That is the quickest way to get a technician to your door.

What breaks in metro Atlanta, and what it costs

ApplianceRepairs completedMedian repair
Refrigerator1,905403 dollars
Washer1,006368 dollars
Dishwasher869334 dollars
Oven and range554361 dollars
Dryer447346 dollars
Freezer96378 dollars
Ice maker68436 dollars

Each of these machines has its own Atlanta page, with the component prices, the faults we see most and the questions people ask about that appliance: refrigerator repair in Atlanta, washer repair in Atlanta, dryer repair in Atlanta, dishwasher repair in Atlanta, oven and range repair in Atlanta, cooktop repair in Atlanta, ice maker and freezer repair in Atlanta, and for cafes and restaurants espresso machine repair in Atlanta. This page is the overview for metro Atlanta; the appliance pages carry the detail.

Metro Atlanta is our most dishwasher-heavy market: 18.3 percent of paid visits here are dishwashers, against 12.9 percent in Tampa Bay. Georgia kitchens run dishwashers harder and longer than Florida kitchens do, and at a 334 dollar median it is also the cheapest major appliance in the metro to put right.

Dryers are the machine households want back fastest. A dead dryer stops the laundry today with no substitute in the house.

We see the same in all five of our metros: when a household genuinely needs the machine back that day, how fast we can get there matters most.

Brands in metro Atlanta

Whirlpool leads at 24.2 percent of branded calls with Samsung close behind at 23.3, then GE at 17.7, Frigidaire at 12.0, Maytag at 9.2, LG at 4.0, Amana at 2.4, Bosch at 2.0 and Kenmore at 2.0 percent.

Read this correctly. These are shares of the repairs we are dispatched on, which follow how many of each brand are installed in metro Atlanta homes, not how reliable the brands are. A brand that sells more units generates more service calls even when it fails less often. We do not publish reliability rankings from our own call volume, and neither should anyone quoting this table.

Metro Atlanta appliance repair questions, answered with our own numbers

How much does appliance repair cost in metro Atlanta?

Across 11,842 completed metro Atlanta repairs where a part was replaced, the median total was 365 dollars, covering the part, the labor and the service call together. A quarter came in under 295 dollars and a quarter ran above 454. The 99 dollar diagnostic comes off that total when you approve the repair.

Does the price change depending on which part of metro Atlanta I live in?

Our diagnostic fee and labor rate are identical everywhere, but what breaks is not. Across the 129 metro ZIP codes where we have at least 30 measured repairs, medians run from 320 dollars in 30601 in Athens to 465 dollars in 30305 in Atlanta.

The pattern is not concentric: Sharpsburg and Tyrone, forty-five miles southwest, sit near the top alongside the intown north side, while Smyrna and Kennesaw sit near the bottom.

Why are repairs more expensive on the intown north side than in Kennesaw?

Appliance mix, not postcode. The intown north side runs older houses with built-in and premium units that take longer to reach and use parts that are not general stock. Smyrna and Kennesaw are dense with mid-2000s townhouse and apartment stock running current-production mainstream machines, which are the cheapest appliances in existence to repair.

My gas oven glows but will not heat. What is wrong?

Almost always a weak igniter, and that is a real diagnosis rather than a guess. A tired igniter still glows orange, so it looks healthy, but it no longer draws enough current to open the gas safety valve, and the oven never lights.

It is the most common gas oven failure we see in metro Atlanta: 121 local repairs involving an igniter, at a median total of 357 dollars. A technician confirms it with a clamp meter before ordering anything.

Do you repair gas ranges and gas ovens?

Yes, and metro Atlanta is where most of that work happens. Natural gas reaches a far larger share of Georgia kitchens than it does in Florida or the Carolinas, and it shows in our data: igniter repairs run into the hundreds here and are close to absent in our other four metros.

If you smell gas, do not troubleshoot. Leave the house, call your gas utility from outside, and call us after they have cleared it.

Can you come out the same day in Atlanta?

Yes, when a technician has an open window that day. We cover 181 communities from Cartersville to Covington and Cumming to Peachtree City, so the earlier in the day you call, the better your chance of a same-day visit.

Call (470) 777-7697 and ask for the first open window.

Which appliance do households want back fastest in metro Atlanta?

The dryer. A dead dryer stops the laundry today with no substitute in the house, so households want it back immediately, and the same ordering holds in all five metros we serve.

What is the most expensive common repair?

The control board, at a median of 448 dollars across 310 metro Atlanta replacements. Every other frequently replaced component sits between 303 and 405 dollars: door latches, gaskets, thermostats, oven igniters, drain pumps, shock absorbers, heating elements, defrost heaters and fan motors. Compressors and sealed-system work run higher again and are quoted separately.

Which appliance brands do you service most in metro Atlanta?

Whirlpool at 24.2 percent of branded calls with Samsung close behind at 23.3, then GE at 17.7, Frigidaire at 12.0, Maytag at 9.2, LG at 4.0, Amana at 2.4, Bosch at 2.0 and Kenmore at 2.0 percent.

These are shares of the calls we are dispatched on, which follow how many of each brand are installed in local homes. They are not a reliability ranking and should not be quoted as one.

Which areas around Atlanta do you cover?

We have completed work in 181 metro Atlanta communities and 218 ZIP codes.

That includes Cobb through Marietta, Smyrna, Kennesaw and Acworth; Gwinnett through Lawrenceville, Duluth, Snellville and Buford; DeKalb through Decatur, Stone Mountain, Lithonia and Stonecrest; north Fulton through Alpharetta, Roswell, Milton and Johns Creek; Cherokee through Canton and Woodstock; Forsyth through Cumming; south metro through McDonough, Fayetteville, Jonesboro, Peachtree City, Stockbridge and Newnan; and east through Conyers, Covington, Loganville, Monroe, Winder and Athens.

What does the 99 dollar diagnostic include?

A technician comes out, puts a meter on the machine, identifies the failed component and quotes the total before any work starts. Approve the repair and the 99 dollars comes off that total, so the diagnosis costs you nothing. What the fee buys either way is a tested answer rather than a guess: the exact part, a firm number that does not grow, and the lead time to get it.

Stacked washer-dryer units and double wall ovens are 150 dollars because they have to be pulled to be tested. Completed repairs carry a 90-day parts and labor warranty.
