What the $99 service call is, and what it is not

The $99 buys the trip out and a full set of tests with real equipment. It is not a guess from the doorway. The tech reads the power at the outlet, checks the part that failed and the ones around it, pulls the error log where the machine keeps one, and tells you which part is done.

Approve the repair and that $99 comes off the total, so you pay for the work, not for the visit. Decide to wait, and you still keep the written diagnosis, the price of the fix and the cost of a comparable new machine to set beside it.

Two setups take $150 instead of $99: a stacked washer and dryer combo, and a double oven. Both are two machines in one cabinet, and both have to come apart before anything can be tested.

What a finished repair usually costs

The table above shows what a visit starts at. This one shows where jobs actually land — medians from our own completed repairs, with the part, the labor and the service call counted together.

ApplianceMedian full ticket
Ice maker$426
Refrigerator$394
Oven and range$380
Microwave$376
Freezer$375
Washing machine$358
Dryer$355
Cooktop$338
Dishwasher$335
A median is the middle, not a cap. Half our jobs on each appliance came in under the figure and half above it. A door seal or a thermostat lands well below. A sealed system, a compressor or a control board on a built-in lands well above. The tests on the visit pin your exact number before you commit.

What moves the price

The part. This is most of the bill. A belt or a lid switch costs little. A control board or a compressor costs several hundred on its own, and on premium brands more again. Our page on cost by part lists 46 components across 29,315 completed repairs, if you want to look yours up before booking.

The brand. The five biggest brands sit within $32 of each other, so an ordinary Whirlpool and an ordinary GE cost about the same to fix. Premium built-ins are a different band: Sub-Zero runs $883 against $391 for an ordinary refrigerator, and Wolf is the most expensive brand we repair. The full spread is on cost by brand.

Where the machine sits. Built-in and stacked units take longer to reach. Anything that has to come out of a cabinet, or apart before it can be tested, adds labor to the same repair.

Whether the part is on the van. The common parts for the big brands ride with the tech, which is why most repairs finish on the first visit. A rarer part gets ordered, and we book the return once we know the date.

Ways the bill comes down

Veterans and seniors get $30 off any repair. New customers save $20 on a first service. Both are applied at the visit, no coupon needed — just say so when dispatch calls.

If the house has a few appliances of an age, the $179 annual membership does the heavy lifting: five diagnostics a year at no charge, $30 off labor on every repair, priority booking, and extended cover on the work. One refrigerator call-out pays for the year.

What every price includes

Parts and labor, the arrival window you agreed, and 90 days of warranty on the completed work. If the same fault returns inside that window, the return visit costs you nothing.

Nothing is opened, ordered or replaced before you approve the number in writing. That is the whole of our pricing policy, and the reason there is no line on the invoice you have not already seen.

Questions about pricing

Is the $99 per appliance or per visit?

Per appliance. If the tech is already at the house and you want a second machine looked at, say so at booking — it is cheaper than a separate call, and dispatch will price it for you on the phone.

Can you quote over the phone?

We can give you the band from the table above, and that is honest. The exact number needs the machine open: the same symptom on the same model can be a $40 part or a $400 board.

Do you charge more for evenings or weekends?

The service call is the same. What changes is availability, so an evening or a Saturday slot fills faster and is worth booking early.

What if the repair costs more than the machine is worth?

Then you get both numbers and you choose. The tech puts the repair total next to the price of a comparable new unit and says how many years yours has left.

How do I pay?

At the end of the visit, once the machine has been run and works. The invoice lists the parts, the labor and the warranty, with the $99 shown as a credit against the total.
