DeKalb has one water plant, and it matters to a refrigerator SCOTT CANDLER
Everything in these two ZIP codes on the DeKalb side is served by DeKalb County Watershed Management, and its structure is unusual for a county of 764,382 people.
The Chattahoochee River is its only raw water source and the Scott Candler plant, built in 1942 and rebuilt in 2007, is its only treatment works — the county’s own presentation to the Board of Commissioners on 20 June 2024 described that as a double point of failure, alongside 596 miles of small-diameter pipe due for replacement.
Two consequences for a kitchen. There is no well-versus-city split here, so every refrigerator, ice maker and dishwasher on this route gets water of the same character and a neighbour’s valve cannot scale faster than yours.
