Why the Fill Tube Freezes First

The Freezer Temperature Rule Most People Miss

Look at the fill tube. Pull out the ice bin. The tube enters at the back of the ice maker housing. Ice visible at the opening is your answer — thaw it with warm water from a turkey baster, or leave the freezer door open for half an hour with the machine unplugged.
Put a thermometer in the freezer. Not the display, an actual thermometer, left in for a few hours. You want 0°F to 5°F. Anything above 10°F and the ice maker will not cycle no matter which parts you replace.
Check the shut-off valve behind the fridge. Pull the unit out and confirm the saddle or quarter-turn valve on the water line is fully open. Valves half closed after other plumbing work in the house are a common find.

Why the Same Fault Comes Back

Repeat visits on ice makers are almost never a bad part or bad workmanship. They are the same restricted water supply, unaddressed. A fill tube gets thawed, ice returns for a fortnight, then the tray is empty again and the owner concludes the repair failed.

It usually did not. The tube refroze because each fill was still arriving short, and a short fill leaves water sitting in a tube surrounded by air at 0°F.
