What appliance repair actually costs in each market
Everything below comes from our own dispatch and invoicing records: 66,161 appliance service calls in 57,022 households across 1,471 ZIP codes between January 2023 and August 2026, 18,334 of them in the last twelve months. Not an industry survey, not an estimate. If you want the detail for one market, every metro above links through to its full coverage index.

Diagnostic is 99 dollars and it comes off the bill when you approve the repair. Completed repairs carry a 90-day parts and labor warranty.
Five metros, side by side
These are our five core markets, covering 57,858 of those service calls. The median column is the full ticket on a repair where a part was replaced: part, labor and the service call together, not the price of the part on its own.
| Metro | Service calls | Median repair |
|---|---|---|
| Metro Atlanta | 26,803 | 365 dollars |
| South Florida | 11,979 | 377 dollars |
| Tampa Bay | 11,580 | 358 dollars |
| Jacksonville | 4,141 | 387 dollars |
| Charlotte | 3,355 | 311 dollars |
One price list, a 24 percent spread
We bill every market off the same rate card. The same 99 dollar diagnostic, the same labor rate, the same discounts. And yet the median repair runs 311 dollars in Charlotte and 387 dollars in Jacksonville, a gap of 24 percent.
None of that gap is pricing. All of it is what breaks and how hard it is to reach. Three things move the number, and they are the same three everywhere:
- How old the housing stock is. Our cheapest markets and cheapest ZIP codes are consistently the fast-growth districts built since 2000. Newer machines fail on a pump, a switch or a belt, and those parts are current production rather than special order.
- How much of the appliance mix is built in. A counter-depth refrigerator or a wall oven has to be unfastened and drawn out before anything can be tested, which adds labor to an identical fault. Coastal and intown premium districts carry far more of them.
- How electronically controlled the machines are. The control board is the most expensive routine repair in every one of our metros, from 448 dollars in Atlanta to 492 dollars in Jacksonville, and it is model-specific so it cannot come from general stock.
What holds in all five markets
Run the same analysis across five metros in four states and one result repeats without exception: the dryer is the appliance households most reliably put right.
| Metro | Paid dryer visits | Median dryer repair |
|---|---|---|
| Tampa Bay | 426 | 355 dollars |
| South Florida | 231 | 361 dollars |
| Jacksonville | 127 | 377 dollars |
| Charlotte | 110 | 285 dollars |
| Metro Atlanta | 570 | 346 dollars |
In four of those five markets a dryer repair costs more than a dishwasher repair, so this is not a price effect. It is a household one. A dead dryer stops the laundry that day and there is no substitute anywhere in the house, so people want it back immediately.
The general version, which holds across all 66,161 visits: what decides whether a household repairs an appliance is not the size of the quote, it is how many days they can live without the machine. That is why the useful question is rarely “is this cheap enough.” It is “how fast can somebody be here.”
What changes with the map
Group every paid visit by what the appliance is actually for and the five markets sort themselves geographically, from the southernmost to the northernmost, with no exceptions:
| Metro | Cooling | Laundry | Dishwasher | Cooking |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| South Florida | 48.3 percent | 22.7 percent | 14.7 percent | 14.2 percent |
| Tampa Bay | 44.3 percent | 34.6 percent | 12.9 percent | 8.3 percent |
| Jacksonville | 40.8 percent | 34.2 percent | 14.2 percent | 10.8 percent |
| Metro Atlanta | 39.7 percent | 29.6 percent | 18.3 percent | 12.4 percent |
| Charlotte | 36.4 percent | 34.9 percent | 17.5 percent | 11.2 percent |
Cooling means refrigerators, freezers and ice makers. Nearly half the machines we are dispatched to in South Florida are cooling something, against a bit over a third in Charlotte. A refrigerator in Miami works against a hot, humid kitchen twelve months a year where the same unit in Charlotte gets a real off-season, and the compressor duty cycle follows.
The cooking column moves the other way and for a different reason. Metro Atlanta and South Florida sit at the top of it, and Atlanta specifically is where gas ranges concentrate: oven igniter repairs run into the hundreds in Georgia and are close to absent in our Florida and Carolina markets. Natural gas simply reaches a much larger share of Atlanta kitchens.
Our other service areas
Beyond the five metros above, these markets each run from a full service page rather than a city-by-city index:
| Market | Service calls | Median repair |
|---|---|---|
| Dallas and Fort Worth, TX | 2,358 | 325 dollars |
| Philadelphia, PA | 1,477 | 343 dollars |
| Houston, TX | 1,431 | 346 dollars |
Houston is the fastest market we run anywhere, with 38.7 percent of calls seen the same day. Dallas is the second cheapest after Charlotte at a 325 dollar median.

How these numbers were produced
- Source: our own dispatch and invoicing system, every service call from 14 January 2023 to 11 August 2026.
- Median repair: completed visits where a replacement part was fitted. Totals include the part, the labor and the service call. We report medians rather than averages because a small number of sealed-system and premium built-in jobs would otherwise pull the figure well above what a typical household pays.
- Metro boundaries are drawn by ZIP code prefix rather than by city name, so a repair is assigned to a market by where the house is and not by how the address was typed.
- Same day means the visit was scheduled for the same calendar date the job was created. Within 24 hours means scheduled within 24 hours of that.
- Brand shares are shares of the calls we are dispatched on. They follow how many of each brand are installed in local homes and are not a reliability ranking. We do not publish reliability rankings from our own call volume.
- What we do not have: appliance age at time of failure, since installation dates are not recorded, and household income or demographics. Where we suggest a mechanism behind a pattern we say so explicitly rather than presenting it as a finding.
- Geography note: 84 percent of this work sits in Florida and Georgia, so these figures describe our service area and should not be read as national averages.
Questions about our service areas, answered with our own numbers
Where does Bozmanfix operate?
Nine markets across six states. Five have a full city-by-city coverage index: metro Atlanta in Georgia, South Florida covering Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach, Tampa Bay, Northeast Florida around Jacksonville, and the Charlotte metro spanning North and South Carolina. The other four, Dallas and Fort Worth, Houston, Philadelphia, and Augusta and Aiken, are each served through their own market page. Altogether that is 66,161 completed service calls across 1,471 ZIP codes since January 2023.
How much does appliance repair cost?
Across all markets the median repair that included a replacement part is 364 dollars, covering the part, the labor and the service call together. By metro that runs from 311 dollars in Charlotte to 387 dollars in Jacksonville. The diagnostic visit is 99 dollars and comes off the total when you approve the repair.
Why does the same repair cost more in one city than another?
Not because of the rate card, which is identical everywhere we work.
Three things move the number: how old the local housing stock is, since newer machines fail on cheaper current-production parts; how much of the appliance mix is built in, since a counter-depth refrigerator or a wall oven has to be drawn out before it can be tested; and how electronically controlled the machines are, since a model-specific control board is the most expensive routine repair in every metro at 448 to 492 dollars.
Which city has the cheapest appliance repair?
Charlotte, at a 311 dollar median, and it is cheapest on every appliance category we track: 352 dollars for a refrigerator, 310 for a washer, 320 for an oven, 295 for a dishwasher and 285 for a dryer. It is also our flattest market, with only 37 dollars between the most and least expensive ZIP codes.
How fast can you get here?
Fast in every market we serve. Roughly half of all calls in every market are seen within 24 hours, and Houston, our fastest, sees 38.7 percent of calls the same day.
Same-day slots are set first thing in the morning, so the earlier you call, the wider your choice of windows.
Which appliance do households most want back the same day?
The dryer, in every one of our five core markets without exception.
In four of those five a dryer repair costs more than a dishwasher repair, so it is not a price effect. A dead dryer stops the laundry that day with no substitute in the house.
Why are refrigerator repairs so much more common in Florida?
Because the climate never lets the machine rest. Refrigerators, freezers and ice makers are 48.3 percent of our South Florida dispatches, 44.3 percent in Tampa Bay, 40.8 in Jacksonville, 39.7 in metro Atlanta and 36.4 percent in Charlotte, a gradient that falls in order from south to north with no exceptions.
Compressors run longer duty cycles and condenser fans run more hours where there is no off-season. Clearing the condenser coils twice a year is the cheapest thing a household in a hot climate can do about it.
What is the most expensive common repair?
The control board, in every market we serve. It runs from a 448 dollar median in metro Atlanta to 492 dollars in Jacksonville. Boards are model-specific, so unlike a pump or a heating element they cannot be carried in general stock. Compressors and sealed-system work run higher again and are quoted separately.
Can I use these figures in an article or report?
Yes. Attribute them to Bozmanfix appliance repair service records covering 2023 to 2026 and link to this page. Every number here comes from our own dispatch and invoicing system rather than from an industry survey. If you need a cut we have not published, whether a specific metro, appliance, component or ZIP-level breakdown, contact us and we will run it.
What does the 99 dollar diagnostic include?
A technician comes out, puts a meter on the machine, identifies the failed component and quotes the total before any work starts. Approve the repair and the 99 dollars comes off that total, so the diagnosis costs you nothing. What the fee buys either way is a tested answer rather than a guess: the exact part, a firm number that does not grow, and the lead time to get it.
Stacked washer-dryer units and double wall ovens are 150 dollars because they have to be pulled to be tested. Completed repairs carry a 90-day parts and labor warranty.
