Will Not Drain — Drain Pump, $374
A tub still full of water at the end of the cycle is the most common washer complaint we handle, and at 127 completed jobs the drain pump is the best-supported figure in the table. The pump either seized, or something got past the filter and jammed the impeller — coins, buttons and hairpins account for a large share of what technicians pull out.

A cycle that starts and then sits there, or a tub that fills far too slowly, points at the inlet valve. At 104 jobs this is a well-supported figure. The valve is an electrically operated gate on the supply line, and mineral deposits are what usually finish it off.

Will Not Start or Stops Mid-Cycle — Control Board, $439
At $439 across 112 jobs the control board is the most expensive standard washer repair, and the part carries nearly all of that cost. Symptoms are unmistakable once you know them: a cycle that starts and abandons itself, buttons that respond intermittently, a display showing a code that clears and returns.
Boards deserve careful confirmation before replacement, because a failed door latch at $390 produces similar behavior — a machine that will not start because it does not believe the door is closed. If a technician reaches for the control board on a machine that will not drain, the odds are against that diagnosis: pumps fail roughly one and a half times as often as boards, and they cost 65 dollars less to put right. Door latches sit at the other end at 14 jobs, uncommon but easy to mistake for something far more expensive.

- Medians, not averages. A single 1,350 dollar outlier should not drag the typical price upward.
- Interquartile ranges alongside. You see the middle half of real invoices, not one tidy number.
- Minimum sample sizes. Part-level figures need at least 10 completed jobs, brand figures 25, state figures 50. Below that, nothing is published.
- One appliance per job. Visits covering two appliances are excluded, so a dryer repair never inflates a washer figure.
