Safe to Check Before You Call — Then Stop
- Do the hand test on the upper section, machine off. Turn the top of the agitator by hand. Locks one way, turns the other: cogs are fine. Turns freely both ways: cogs are worn. Nothing turns independently: single-action agitator, look elsewhere. Ten seconds, and it is the single most useful thing you can tell a technician about this fault.
- Run one normal load at half the usual size. An overloaded top loader produces the exact symptom of a dead agitator: laundry that sits still and comes out badly washed.
