Maytag Appliance Repair

🟢 2,199 Maytag service visits 📍 GA · FL · TX · NC · PA · SC 🧺 Half the brand is laundry 💰 $99 diagnostic, applied to the repair

Maytag produces the most predictable repair bill of any brand we service, and the most refusals. Across 2,199 Maytag visits and 1,042 completed repairs the median is $343, and only 2 of those 1,042 repairs exceeded $1,000 — 0.2%, the flattest distribution in our entire job book. Full pricing from real invoices: Maytag washer error codes.

The cheapest routine repair we record on any brand is a Maytag drive belt at $292. And yet Maytag has the lowest approval rate of the volume brands at 62.4%, dropping to 51.9% on washers. Cheap, predictable, and approved less often than anything dearer. The explanation is not the repair.

A laundry brand, in our records

Washers are 38.9% of Maytag visits and dryers another 13.7%, so 52.6% of everything we do on this badge is laundry — the highest laundry concentration of any brand we service, and the mirror image of Frigidaire, which comes to us as refrigeration. Refrigerators are 9.0% of Maytag work, dishwashers 4.6%, ranges 2.5%.

Maytag categoryMedian repairMiddle halfRepairsApproved

Dryer$336$286–39618379.6%
Refrigerator$376$305–45911071.4%
Dishwasher$346$267–4293548.6%

Freezer$332$291–4111178.6%
All Maytag repairs$343$289–4091,04262.4%

Now put the two laundry rows next to each other. The washer costs $20 more to repair than the dryer and is approved 27.7 points less often. That is the single cleanest demonstration of a pattern we found across every brand and appliance we service: the price of the repair does not predict whether it happens.

What predicts it is what replacement costs and disrupts, and a washer is the easiest major appliance in the house to swap out — standard opening, standard connections, delivered Saturday.

Same engineering as Whirlpool, same parts bin

Maytag has been part of Whirlpool Corporation since 2006, alongside KitchenAid and Amana, and the machines share platforms, components and service procedures to a degree that shows up directly in our pricing. Maytag at a $343 median, Whirlpool at $348 and Amana at $325 are effectively the same repair economy with three badges on it.

This is practical rather than trivia. A lid lock, a suspension rod, a drive belt or a drain pump on a Maytag is frequently the identical part carried for Whirlpool, which means availability is good and a technician who knows the platform is not learning a new machine.

We keep LG and Whirlpool factory-trained technicians on staff, and on the Whirlpool platform that training carries directly across to Maytag. The wider brand comparison lives on our repair cost by brand page, and the Whirlpool platform in detail on our Whirlpool hub.

What fails on a Maytag, with prices

Every row rests on at least fifteen completed repairs and is the complete bill: part, labour and the service call together.

Component replacedMedian repairMiddle halfRepairs
Drive belt$292$251–35732
Drum roller or idler$302$269–39422
Door latch or lid lock$309$282–36124
Heating element$324$300–37246
Thermostat or sensor$330$320–36615
Suspension or shocks$350$318–37840
Water inlet valve$359$320–38115
Control board$445$375–54025

The Maytag drive belt at $292 is the cheapest component row anywhere in our records across every brand, and the heating element at 46 repairs is the brand’s most replaced part.

Read the table from top to bottom and the spread from cheapest to dearest is $153 — belt to board — with almost everything clustered in the low $300s. That clustering is why the brand has almost no tail: on a Maytag there is very little that can go wrong expensively.

💡 Where the decision actually turns. On this brand the control board at $445 is the only repair that changes the arithmetic, and it is 25 of 1,042 repairs. Everything else is a $300-ish job on a machine that is worth several times that. If you are quoted a Maytag repair in the $290 to $360 band on a machine under about ten years old, you are being offered the good end of this trade.

Refrigerator not cooling$383863.9%

Look down the price column: every symptom on this brand resolves between $335 and $383. There is no expensive corner of a Maytag.

Noise leads the table at 12.4% of visits, the highest noise share of any brand we service, and on a laundry-heavy brand that is what you would expect — rollers, belts, idlers and suspension are all noise-first failures, and all of them are cheap if they are caught before they take something else with them.

🔶 What to have ready when you book a Maytag. Dryer that has stopped heating: clear the vent run from the machine to the outside hood and check the hood flap opens, because a restricted vent is what kills elements and thermostats in the first place. Washer that bangs or walks: remove the load, redistribute it, and check the machine is level and that shipping bolts were removed if it has ever been moved. Washer that will not drain: check the drain hose is not kinked behind the machine and that the standpipe is not blocked.

Fault codes on Maytag

Maytag uses the Whirlpool code format, so newer machines show a two-part code such as F9E1 or F8E1 where the first half names the system and the second half narrows the fault inside it, while older ones show a single code such as F5 or F01.

168 Maytag visits, 7.6% of the brand, quote a code at booking, and those visits ran to a $357 median repair — $14 above the brand median, which is to say a code on a Maytag is not a warning sign of expense.

The usual caution applies. A code names a circuit and not a part: a drain code can be the pump, the hose, the filter or a foreign object, and a motor code can be the motor, the board driving it or something jamming the drum. Codes should be read against the fault table for your model number rather than a general list.

Where Maytag costs land

Median $343, middle half $289 to $409, across 1,042 completed repairs, with 0.2% above $1,000 and a largest recorded repair of $1,635. Among the twelve brands we track that puts Maytag tenth of twelve on cost, with only Amana below it. The full table is on our repair cost by brand page.

The visit is $99, applied to the repair when you approve it, $150 on stacked laundry and double wall ovens because they have to be separated to be reached. You get a firm price for the whole job before any work begins. Terms are on the pricing page. Maytag is the one brand where Georgia outweighs Florida in our book, 948 visits against 804.

Methodology Figures come from Bozmanfix’s own job records across Georgia, Florida, Texas, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and South Carolina through August 2026. The Maytag set is 2,199 service visits carrying a Maytag equipment tag, of which 1,793 were completed and 1,042 involved a replaced part; those 1,042 are the basis for every median. A visit counts as diagnostic-only where the customer paid the diagnostic and no part was replaced, and the approval figure is repairs divided by repairs plus diagnostic-only visits. Medians include the part, the labour and the service call together, which is why they sit well above parts-only prices published elsewhere. Each visit is assigned to one appliance category. Component rows rest on at least fifteen completed repairs each and are identified from the job record, so they undercount rather than overcount. Cross-brand comparisons carry their own denominators and live on our cost by brand and approval rate pages. Service call counts reflect how many of these machines are installed in the homes that call us and how often they call; they are not a reliability ranking and should not be read as one. Bozmanfix is an independent appliance repair company and is not affiliated with, authorised by or endorsed by Maytag or Whirlpool Corporation.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Maytag appliance repair cost?

A median of $343 across 1,042 completed Maytag repairs, with the middle half between $289 and $409. By appliance: refrigerator $376, oven and range $364, washer $356, dishwasher $346, dryer $336. Only 0.2% of Maytag repairs exceed $1,000, the flattest distribution of any brand we service. Prices include the part, the labour and the service call together, and the $99 diagnostic comes off the repair when you approve it.

Is a Maytag washer worth repairing?

On the numbers, usually yes. The median Maytag washer repair is $356 with the middle half between $304 and $417, on a machine worth several times that, and the only expensive repair on the brand is the control board at $445, which is 25 of 1,042 jobs.

Owners still approve Maytag washer repairs at only 51.9%, the lowest figure of any category on any brand we service, because a washer is the easiest major appliance to replace rather than because the repair is dear.

Why is my Maytag dryer not heating?

No heat is named on 218 Maytag visits and resolves at a $344 median. The heating element is the brand’s most replaced part at 46 repairs and a $324 median, with thermostats and sensors behind it. Clear the vent run first: a restricted vent is what cooks elements and thermostats, and replacing the element without dealing with the vent means buying the same repair twice.

Why is my Maytag washer noisy?

Noise is the most common Maytag complaint, 12.4% of visits, and it resolves at a $335 median. On this brand the usual causes are cheap: drive belts at $292, drum rollers and idlers at $302, suspension and shocks at $350. Noise is also the symptom people tolerate longest, and these parts take other parts with them if they are left, so it is the one worth acting on early.

Are Maytag and Whirlpool the same?

Maytag has been part of Whirlpool Corporation since 2006, along with KitchenAid and Amana, and the machines share platforms, components and service procedures extensively. Our repair medians show it: Maytag $343, Whirlpool $348, Amana $325. Practically it means parts availability is good and a technician trained on the Whirlpool platform works efficiently on a Maytag.

What does an F9E1 or F5 code mean on a Maytag?

Maytag uses the Whirlpool code format: newer machines show a two-part code such as F9E1 where the first half names the system and the second half narrows the fault, and older ones show a single code such as F5.

A code names a circuit rather than a part, so it should be read against the fault table for your model number. Maytag visits quoting a code ran to a $357 median repair, only $14 above the brand median.

Are you an authorised Maytag service centre?

No. Bozmanfix is an independent appliance repair company and is not affiliated with, authorised by or endorsed by Maytag or Whirlpool Corporation. Our own record on the brand is 2,199 Maytag service visits across six states. If your appliance is still inside its factory warranty, contact Maytag first, because warranty work should go through their network.

Maytag making a noise it did not use to make?

On this brand the numbers are small and the parts are cheap, and the difference between acting now and waiting is usually the difference between one part and three. The $99 diagnostic comes off the repair when you approve it.
