Oven Repair Cost: Real Prices from 1,713 Jobs
The median oven or range repair in our records is $375 — parts, labor and the service call together. That is the middle invoice across 1,713 completed oven and range repairs, and half of those jobs landed between $302 and $478. If the unit runs but the food stays cold: why a microwave stops heating. Oven Repair Cost, From Real Invoices
Book a technician today and put the $99 diagnostic toward the repair.
Ovens fail in a small number of very predictable ways, and the dataset shows it plainly. One part accounts for more replacements than any other component on any appliance we service: the gas igniter, at 209 completed jobs. Together with heating and bake elements, three parts cover the large majority of everything that goes wrong. To schedule the work: book appliance repair in your area.
That concentration is useful when you get a quote. Unlike a refrigerator, where the same symptom sits in front of repairs 500 dollars apart, an oven that will not heat has a short list of likely causes, and they all sit between $319 and $350.
Every figure on this page is the complete invoice — part, labor and the service call in one number. The dataset covers 1,713 completed oven and range repairs across Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Texas.
💲 What an Oven Repair Costs
| Measure | Amount |
|---|---|
| Median oven or range repair | $375 |
| Middle 50 percent of jobs | $302 to $478 |
| Diagnostic visit, applied to the repair | $99 |
| Diagnostic on a double wall oven | $150 |
| Jobs in this dataset | 1,713 |
Median and interquartile range from completed oven and range repairs where a part was installed. Every figure includes parts, labor and the service call. Gas and electric ovens price differently by part, so run your own model through the appliance repair cost calculator.
An oven sits in the middle of the appliances we service — about $47 above a dishwasher, $16 below a refrigerator. The wider than usual upper quartile, $478, comes from built-in wall ovens and pro-style ranges, where getting to the part means pulling the unit out of cabinetry.
🔍 What the $99 Diagnostic Buys
The visit starts at $99, or $150 on a double wall oven, and comes off the repair when you approve the work. On an oven the diagnostic answers a narrow but consequential question: is the part that stopped working the heat source, the sensor that measures the heat, or the board that decides when to apply it.
Those three land at $319 to $350, $420 and $469 respectively — and the symptom from the customer’s side is identical in all three cases. The oven does not reach temperature. A technician with a meter separates them in one visit.
One thing we will not quote, because the data does not support it: a standalone «calibration» service. Across 65,924 jobs there is effectively no such repair — when an oven runs at the wrong temperature, either a part gets replaced or nothing does. If a technician finds nothing to replace, you pay the diagnostic and that is the whole bill.

Gas Oven Will Not Light — Igniter, $350
At 209 completed jobs the gas igniter is the single most replaced component in our entire dataset, across every appliance. It is a wear part by design: it glows red hot on every cycle to open the gas valve, and eventually it no longer draws enough current to do so.
The tell is specific and easy to recognize. The igniter glows, you can see it, but the burner never lights — because a weak igniter still glows while failing to pull the amperage the valve needs. That is why a visual check misleads people into thinking the igniter is fine. Symptom guide: gas burner will not light, and for ranges specifically: gas range repair.
Electric Oven Will Not Heat — Elements, $319 to $322
On an electric oven the bake element is the lower heating loop, and the broil element is the upper one. Both are the cheapest repairs on this page. Failure is usually visible: the element blisters, cracks or shows a bright burn spot where it separated.
Because the element is a resistive loop, it either works or it does not — there is no gradual decline. An oven that heats slowly but does get there is more likely a sensor problem than an element.
Wrong Temperature — Sensor or Thermostat, $420
At $420 across 19 jobs the temperature sensor sits above the heating parts, and it explains the most frustrating symptom: an oven that heats, but not to the number on the dial. The sensor is a probe in the cavity that tells the control how hot it actually is; when it drifts, the oven confidently holds the wrong temperature.
This is worth confirming with a thermometer before booking, because a 25 to 30 degree swing is normal and a genuinely drifting sensor usually reads much further off. Related: oven temperature off.
Dead Panel or Random Behavior — Control Board, $469
At $469 across 87 jobs the control board is the most expensive standard oven repair, and nearly all of that is the part. Symptoms are electronic: a panel that lights but will not respond, a cycle that ends itself, an error code that returns after clearing, an oven that ignores its own settings.
On ovens the board is worth confirming carefully, because a failed sensor at $420 produces overlapping symptoms for 49 dollars less, and on some models the touchpad membrane is a separate part from the board behind it.
What Fails Most Often
The job counts tell their own story. Among component-level oven repairs in this dataset, the igniter accounts for 209, the control board 87, heating and bake elements 75 between them, and sensors 19. The igniter alone is more common than everything else combined.
That has a practical consequence when you are quoted. On a gas oven that will not light, the odds strongly favor the cheapest outcome on this page — and if the quote comes back as a control board on that symptom, it is fair to ask what test ruled the igniter out. On an electric oven the same logic runs the other way: elements fail outright and visibly, so a heating complaint with an intact element points at the sensor or the board rather than the heat source.
⚡ Not sure which of these you have? That is what the diagnostic settles. Firm price before any work starts, and the $99 comes off the repair.
🏷️ Oven Repair Cost by Brand
Seven brands have enough completed jobs to publish. The spread runs from $345 to $438.
| Brand | Jobs | Median invoice |
|---|---|---|
| Frigidaire | 191 | $345 |
| Whirlpool | 245 | $356 |
| GE | 292 | $358 |
| Kenmore | 36 | $366 |
| Samsung | 183 | $382 |
| LG | 70 | $425 |
| KitchenAid | 49 | $438 |
Median full invoice by brand, published only where at least 25 completed jobs support the figure.
GE, Whirlpool and Frigidaire carry 728 of the jobs between them and sit within 13 dollars of each other. That is the practical answer for most kitchens: on a mainstream range, brand is not a pricing factor.
LG at $425 and KitchenAid at $438 sit higher, driven by parts pricing and by a larger share of built-in wall ovens where access takes longer. Full brand comparison across every appliance: appliance repair cost by brand.
📍 Does Location Change the Price?
| State | Jobs | Median invoice |
|---|---|---|
| Florida | 707 | $390 |
| Georgia | 752 | $365 |
| Texas | 88 | $363 |
| North Carolina | 102 | $348 |
Median full invoice by state, published only where at least 50 completed jobs support the figure.
Florida and Georgia hold 1,459 of the 1,713 jobs and sit 25 dollars apart. Across all four states the whole spread is 42 dollars — smaller than the gap between two brands in the same kitchen.
⚖️ Repair or Replace: The Arithmetic
A new freestanding range runs roughly 700 to 1,500 dollars before delivery and installation. A built-in wall oven runs well past that, and replacement there means matching a cabinet cutout.
- Igniter or element, any age: at $319 to $350 against a 1,000 dollar range, this is not a close call.
- Sensor or thermostat: $420 still comfortably favors repair on anything under fifteen years.
- Control board on a range past fifteen years: $469 is where the arithmetic gets closer, though a range with a new board typically has years left.
- Built-in wall oven, any repair: repair wins almost regardless. Replacement means matching a cutout that may no longer be a standard size, plus cabinetry work.
- Pro-style range: repair, without much thought. Replacement cost is several thousand.

📊 Where These Numbers Come From
Most oven pricing online is an estimate — a range from contractor surveys, or a calculator multiplying a labor rate by a guessed number of hours. This page is neither.
Every figure comes from completed oven and range repairs in our own service records, 1,713 of them, each an invoice a customer actually paid. The method is published so the numbers can be checked:
- Completed jobs only. Scheduled work and cancellations are excluded entirely.
- Full invoice. Parts, labor and the service call in one figure, never the part alone.
- Medians, not averages. A single 2,689 dollar pro-style range job should not drag the typical price upward.
- Interquartile ranges alongside. You see the middle half of real invoices.
- Minimum sample sizes. Part-level figures need at least 10 completed jobs, brand figures 25, state figures 50.
- One appliance per job. Visits covering two appliances are excluded, and cooktops are counted separately from ovens.
- No services we do not actually perform. There is no line for oven calibration on this page because there is effectively no such job in 65,924 records.

Pricing and Savings
Approve the work and the diagnostic fee is credited against the invoice. Double wall ovens are $150 to diagnose, because there are two cavities to test. Veterans and seniors take $30 off any repair. New customers take $20 off a first service. The annual membership at $179 covers five diagnostics, priority scheduling and labor discounts.

Oven Repair Cost FAQ
How much does oven repair cost on average?
The median oven or range repair in our records is $375, covering parts, labor and the service call together. Half of all completed repairs fall between $302 and $478. That figure comes from 1,713 completed oven and range jobs rather than an estimate.
How much does it cost to replace an oven igniter?
A gas igniter replacement runs a median of $350, including parts, labor and the service call. At 209 completed jobs it is the single most replaced component across every appliance we service, because the igniter glows red hot on every cycle and wears out by design.
What is the most expensive oven repair?
The control board, at a median of $469 across 87 completed jobs. Almost all of that is the part rather than the labor. It is worth confirming carefully, because a failed temperature sensor at $420 produces overlapping symptoms.
My oven does not reach the temperature I set. What is wrong?
Most often the temperature sensor, at a median of $420. First put an oven thermometer on the middle rack at 350°F: a swing of 25 to 30 degrees around the setting is normal on almost every home oven. A reading 100 degrees low, or one that never climbs, is a genuine fault.
Do you charge to recalibrate an oven?
No, because there is effectively no such job. Across 65,924 service records, an oven running at the wrong temperature either needs a part replaced or needs nothing. If a technician finds nothing to replace, you pay the $99 diagnostic and that is the entire bill.
Does the brand of oven change the repair cost?
Only modestly on mainstream ranges. GE, Whirlpool and Frigidaire sit within 13 dollars of each other across 728 jobs, at $345 to $358. LG at $425 and KitchenAid at $438 run higher, mainly on parts pricing and a larger share of built-in wall ovens where access takes longer.
Why is the diagnostic $150 on a double wall oven?
Because there are two independent cavities, each with its own elements, sensor and wiring, and both have to be tested to know which one failed and why. On a single oven or range the diagnostic is $99. In both cases the fee comes off the repair when you approve the work.
