Flow Sense: The Warning Almost Everyone Ignores

LG puts a pressure-based airflow check into its dryers and reports the result on the display. When restriction reaches roughly 80 percent, the machine shows d80. At 90 percent it shows d90, and at 95 percent d95. These are not faults in the machine. They are measurements of your duct, and they are the most useful thing any dryer manufacturer has ever put on a control panel.

The problem is that a dryer showing d80 still dries clothes, just more slowly, so the message gets cleared and forgotten. Meanwhile the restriction keeps rising, cabinet temperature climbs with it, and the safety devices that protect the heater start working harder than they were designed to. Eventually a thermal fuse opens or the heater assembly fails, and the machine goes cold. At that point the owner reports a dryer that stopped heating with no warning. The warning was there for months, in numbers.

The mistake that costs you twice: replacing the heater assembly or the fuse while the duct is still restricted. The new part goes into the same overheating environment and fails the same way. What You Can Check in Ten Minutes

Check the display history. Any d80, d90, d95 or tE message you remember from recent months changes the diagnosis completely. Write down what you saw and when.
Clean the lint screen and the slot underneath. Lint bypasses the screen and packs the housing below, and on LG models that housing feeds directly into the airflow sensing. A vacuum crevice tool reaches it.
Pull the dryer out and inspect the hose. A crushed or kinked hose behind the machine is the most common restriction there is, and it costs nothing to fix. Foil concertina hose is the worst offender — the ridges hold lint that smooth rigid duct carries away.
Run the dryer and go outside to the vent flap. Air should be strong enough to feel from a foot away. Weak or nothing means the duct is packed and any electrical part you fit will fail again.

Why the Same Fault Comes Back
