💲 $99 Diagnostic — Applied to Repair

Every guide tells you what a Bosch error code means. Almost none tell you what it costs to clear. This page does both: the official meaning of each code from Bosch, and the median invoice from our own completed repairs where that code was the reason for the visit. Full pricing from real invoices: Maytag washer error codes.

Bosch Showing a Code You Cannot Clear?

Firm price before the work starts, and the $99 diagnostic comes off the repair.

Bosch dishwashers report faults as an E-code on the display. Newer models with a full display may show a four-digit version of the same code, so E3100 and E15 mean the same thing. The code narrows the fault to a system, not to a part, which is why two machines showing the same code can end with two different invoices.

Code meanings below are Bosch’s own, from their owner support documentation. The prices are ours, from completed jobs where a part was installed.

Code meanings from Bosch owner support. Medians published only where at least ten completed repairs support the figure: E15 rests on 22 jobs, E24 on 13. For the rest we publish the meaning and the likely part, not a number we cannot stand behind.

E15 — Water in the Base, $301

The most common Bosch code we are called out for, and the one people most often misread. E15 does not mean the dishwasher is broken beyond use. It means a float switch in the base pan has been lifted by water that should not be there, and the machine has shut off its own water supply to stop a flood. That is the Aquastop system doing its job.

Across 22 completed E15 repairs the median invoice was $301, with the middle half between $266 and $390. The spread comes from where the water originated: a loose hose clamp or a worn door seal sits at the bottom of that range, a cracked sump or a failed pump housing at the top.

🟢 Free check first: tilt the machine forward gently to drain the base pan, wipe it dry, then run a short cycle and watch. If E15 returns immediately, water is still entering the base and it needs a technician. If it does not return, the leak was a one-off spill and you have lost nothing but ten minutes.

E24 and E25 — It Will Not Drain, $270

E24 is Bosch telling you the drain path is blocked, most often at the filter. E25 is the same complaint one step further along: the pump itself is blocked, or its cover has come loose. Both produce standing water in the tub.

At a median of $270 across 13 completed jobs, E24 is the cheapest coded fault we handle on a Bosch. The reason is that half the work is clearing rather than replacing.

🟢 Free check first: twist out the filter basket at the bottom of the tub and rinse it under the tap, then lift the pump cover and look for glass, a fruit sticker or a bone fragment. If your dishwasher drains into a garbage disposal that was recently installed, confirm the drain plug was knocked out — a new disposal ships with that plug in place and the dishwasher cannot drain through it.

E22 — Blocked Filter, Usually Free

Bosch’s own remedy for E22 is to clean the filter under running water. If that clears it, there is nothing to pay anyone for. We list it here precisely because it is the one code on this page that most often needs no visit at all.

If E22 comes back within a few cycles after a proper clean, the blockage is further down the line and the machine is worth looking at.

Code back after the free checks? Then it is not the filter. Firm price before any work starts, and the $99 comes off the repair.

⚡ Electronics and Control Codes

These point at the control board or a circuit on it. Bosch’s standard first step for most of them is a power reset: cut power at the breaker for 30 seconds, restore it, and see whether the code clears.

CodeOfficial meaning
E01 (E0100)Heat pump motor circuit fault at the main control board
E02 · E03Main control board relay fault
E04 (E0105)Faulty heater electronics detected in the self-test
E05 (E0106)Wash arm diverter circuit fault on the main control board
E06 (E8000)Door sensor circuit fault
E19 (E6900)Detergent dispenser solenoid circuit fault
E27 (E9001)House power supply to the unit is too low

Meanings from Bosch owner support. A control board replacement on a dishwasher runs a median of $369 across 57 completed jobs in our records, all brands.

E27 deserves a note, because it is the one code on this page that is not a dishwasher fault at all. Bosch is reporting that incoming voltage is too low. If a technician replaces parts on an E27 without checking the supply, the code comes straight back. That is an electrician’s call, not ours.

🔶 A code is a system, not a part. E01 says the heat pump motor circuit is faulty. That can be the motor, the wiring to it, or the board driving it, and those are three different invoices. Anyone quoting a firm price for a Bosch code over the phone, before seeing the machine, is guessing.

🧪 Scale, Heat and Drying Codes

CodeOfficial meaning
E12 (E2060)Limescale build-up in the heat pump
E09 · E20Heat pump internal heater fault
E07 (E2130)Zeolite (Crystal Dry) fan motor defective
E10 (E2120)Zeolite (Crystal Dry) chamber heater fault
E6160PowerControl lower spray arm reference position not found

Meanings from Bosch owner support.

E12 is worth understanding rather than just clearing. Bosch’s remedy is descaling, and their own advice is to use softening salt afterwards to stop it returning. Across the areas we serve, hard water is the norm rather than the exception, and scale that reaches the heat pump has usually also been working on the heating element and the spray jets. If E12 appears, the machine is telling you about your water, not just about itself.

The Zeolite codes, E07 and E10, only exist on Crystal Dry models. Zeolite is a mineral that releases heat when it absorbs moisture, which is how those models dry without an exposed heating element. When people say a Bosch dishwasher leaves dishes wet, on a Crystal Dry unit these are the codes to look for.

📈 Which Codes We Actually Get Called For

Manufacturer documentation lists every code a machine can produce. Service records show which ones people actually call about, and the two lists are not the same. Counting mentions across our dishwasher jobs, the ranking is lopsided:

CodeTimes it brought us out
E15 — water in the base42
E4 — heater electronics self-test23
E24 — not draining, filter blocked20
E25 — drain pump blocked or cover loose17
E1 — control board circuit11
E23 — drain pump issue9

Count of jobs where the code appeared in the service description. Not every one ended in a repair — some cleared with a filter clean.

Four of the top six are water and drain codes. That matches what the machine is: a sealed box that fills, circulates and empties several times per cycle, with a filter at the bottom catching everything the plates carried in. The electronics codes exist and do fail, but the drain path is where the wear happens.

What to Do When a Code Appears, in Order

  • Write the code down before clearing it. A code that cleared and returned tells a technician more than the code alone, and you will not remember whether it was E24 or E25 by the time someone arrives.
  • Cut power at the breaker for 30 seconds. This is Bosch’s own first step for most electronics codes, and it costs nothing.
  • If the code is E22 or E24, clean the filter. Bosch’s documented remedy, and often the whole fix.
  • If the code is E15, stop and shut off the water. The machine has already detected water where it should not be. Running another cycle to check adds water to a pan that is already full.
  • If it returns after all of that, book a visit. A code that survives a power reset and a filter clean is reporting a real fault, not a glitch.
🔴 One code not to sit on: E15 means water is in the base pan right now. The Aquastop shut the supply off, which prevents a flood but does not dry anything. Left for weeks, that water reaches the pump housing and the wiring underneath, and a $301 repair becomes a bigger one.

📊 Where These Numbers Come From

Two different sources, kept separate on purpose:

  • Code meanings come from Bosch owner support documentation. We do not paraphrase them into something friendlier, because a code means what the manufacturer says it means.
  • Prices come from our own completed repairs, each one an invoice a customer paid, including parts, labor and the service call.
  • Minimum sample. A median is published only where at least ten completed repairs support it. E15 rests on 22, E24 on 13. For every other code we publish the meaning and leave the price open, because a figure built on three jobs would look precise and mean nothing.
  • Completed jobs only. Scheduled and cancelled work is excluded.

Bosch Dishwasher Error Code FAQ

What does E15 mean on a Bosch dishwasher?

According to Bosch, the safety switch has detected water in the base of the dishwasher. A float in the base pan has been lifted and the machine has shut off its own water supply to prevent a flood. Across 22 completed E15 repairs our median invoice was $301, with half falling between $266 and $390.

How do I fix E24 on a Bosch dishwasher?

E24 means the dishwasher is not draining properly because the drain filter is blocked. Start with the free checks: rinse the filter basket, lift the pump cover and look for debris, and if the dishwasher drains into a recently installed garbage disposal, confirm its drain plug was removed. If the code returns, the median repair is $270 across 13 completed jobs.

What is the difference between E24 and E25?

E24 means the drain filter is blocked. E25 means the drain pump itself is blocked, or the pump cover is loose or missing. Both show as standing water in the tub, but E25 sits one step further along the drain path and is more likely to need the pump opened.

Can I clear a Bosch error code myself?

Some, yes. Bosch’s own remedy for E22 is cleaning the filter under running water, and for most electronics codes it is cutting power at the breaker for 30 seconds. E15, E23 and E14 are the ones Bosch tells you to contact support for, because they involve water in the base, the drain pump or the filling system.

Why does my Bosch show a four-digit code like E3100?

Newer Bosch dishwashers with a full display report the extended version of the same fault. E3100 is E15, E6103 is E24, E6102 is E25 and E9240 is E22. The meaning and the repair are identical.

How much does a Bosch dishwasher repair cost?

The median is $315 including parts, labor and the service call, across 195 completed Bosch dishwasher repairs. That places Bosch among the cheaper brands we service, below GE and Samsung at $330 and well below KitchenAid at $375.

What does E27 mean and why does the code keep returning?

E27 means the house power supply to the unit is too low. It is not a dishwasher fault, which is why replacing parts does not clear it. The incoming voltage needs checking by an electrician, and until it is corrected the code will come back.
