Ice Maker and Freezer Repair in Northwest Jacksonville, FL
Two of our 124 Northwest Jacksonville jobs were freezers, and not one was an ice maker. On most of our pages a number that small comes with a caveat about record-keeping — but not here.
This is the best-documented book we hold anywhere, with only 27.4 percent of tickets failing to name the appliance against 56.3 percent in Arlington, and reading the written descriptions on the rest turned up no hidden ice work at all.
Across the river in Arlington that same exercise found three ice maker replacements buried in untagged invoices. Here there are none. The work simply is not on our books yet, so there is no local price on this page and we are not going to invent one.
Everything priced below comes from our company book — $385 across 2,269 freezer repairs and $415 across 2,091 ice maker repairs.
Ice Maker and Freezer Repair in Northwest Jacksonville, FL
Freezer not freezing, frost building up, no ice, hollow cubes, or an ice maker leaking. Priority scheduling on anything holding food, across 32209, 32208 and 32220 including the rural western end.
What the Two Freezer Jobs Tell You, and What They Do Not
Both local freezer tickets are in 32208. One came to $295 and fitted a component; the other came to $78. One component job cannot make a median, so we are showing you the pair rather than averaging them.
| What we can say | What we cannot |
|---|---|
| We cover freezer and ice maker work across all three ZIPs at the same price, with no travel surcharge | Quote a Northwest Jacksonville median — one component job is not a sample |
| The one component job at $295 sits below our company freezer median of $385 | Claim that means anything. One invoice is one invoice |
| There is no hidden ice work in the untagged tickets — we read them | Say ice makers do not fail here. We can only say we have not been called |
| Anything holding food gets priority scheduling | Promise the company figures will match once we do have local work |
What Ice Maker and Freezer Repair Costs
Company-wide rows throughout, for the reason above. Each figure is the part, the labor and the service call together. Ice maker work carries the highest median of any appliance category we run, at $415, largely because so much of it is water-line work reached from inside and behind a cabinet rather than a straightforward component swap.

Why Ice Makers Fail the Way They Do Here
This is the appliance where water chemistry matters most, and here we can hand you a figure from your own utility rather than an estimate. JEA draws from the Floridan aquifer about a thousand feet down, aerates it to strip the sulphur odour groundwater carries, then chlorinates it.
There is no softening step anywhere in that process. JEA publishes the resulting hardness by ZIP: 32220 at 270 parts per million or 16 grains per gallon, 32209 at 248 ppm, 32208 at 229 ppm, all classified Very Hard.
An ice maker handles the largest volume of that water through the narrowest passages in any household appliance — a fill tube a few millimetres across, a solenoid valve cycling many times a day, and a mould that freezes and thaws continuously.
A freezer failure costs more the further out you live 38.5 SQUARE MILES IN 32220 ALONE
32220 covers 38.574 square miles of largely rural western Duval County, more than three times the area of 32208 and four times 32209. That matters for one appliance more than any other: a standalone chest or upright freezer holding a season of food is a much bigger loss out there than a refrigerator drawer, and the nearest replacement is a longer drive.
Freezer calls take priority in our schedule wherever they are, and there is no travel surcharge anywhere in the district. What the distance affects is scheduling — book early in the day if you are toward the western edge, so the van can route to you rather than fit you in around city addresses.
The filter is the first check and the cheapest outcome FREE · SIXTY SECONDS
On any refrigerator with a water line, a filter that is merely tight rather than fully seated behaves exactly like a blockage — reduced flow first, then small or hollow cubes, then no ice at all. Push it in until it clicks and turns to its stop, then run several litres through the dispenser to purge the air out of the line.
If the ice comes back, that is the whole fix. Company-wide we hold 79 jobs where replacing the water filter on the visit was part of the work, at a $440 median, and a share of those could have been a free reseat. See when to change the water filter.
The compressor is where a freezer repair stops making sense $700 AGAINST $400 TO $900 NEW
This is the clearest repair-or-replace line on any appliance we service. A chest or upright freezer costs roughly $400 to $900 new, and our company median for a freezer compressor is $700 across 107 jobs — close enough that on a unit over about ten years old we will usually tell you to replace it before you have to ask.
Everything below the sealed system runs the other way: a defrost heater at $364, a door gasket at $389, a thermostat at $390 or a fan at $396 are all comfortably worth doing. Company-wide the freezer is where the repair total comes closest to the price of a new machine, and the compressor is why.
No compressor has ever been fitted in this district, on any appliance ZERO IN 124 JOBS
Worth stating alongside the paragraph above, because it changes what you should expect. Across all 124 jobs in these three ZIPs we have never completed a compressor replacement — not on a refrigerator, not on a freezer. Compare Arlington, where two refrigerator compressors were fitted at $860 and $700 and a third chose a new machine.
It is one reason our local refrigerator median here comes in below the company figure rather than above it. Nothing in this district has yet reached the sealed-system conversation.
Anything holding food jumps the queue, and that matters more the further west you are. Book online or call (954) 902-6229.
Match Your Symptom to the Likely Cause
- Freezer not freezing but the fridge is fine — defrost heater or timer at $364, evaporator fan at $396, or the thermostat at $390. Company-wide 488 repairs at a $377 median. See freezer frost buildup.
- Frost building up on the back wall or around the door — defrost system, or a door gasket that is no longer sealing. Check the seal on a banknote first; that costs nothing.
- Standalone freezer warm, compressor running constantly — the sealed system, at a $700 company median across 107 jobs. On a unit over about ten years old that is where replacement becomes the honest answer. See how long freezers last.
- No ice at all, water dispenser still works — the ice maker module at $449, or the arm switched off. If the water side works, the supply is fine and the fault is in the maker itself.
- Small, hollow or cloudy cubes — restricted flow. Filter, a partly closed shut-off valve, or a fill tube starting to ice up. Clearing a frozen fill tube is $393 company-wide, the cheapest thing on the ice table.
- Ice maker leaking, or a sheet of ice under the bin — usually the inlet valve failing to close fully at $428, or the fill tube misaligned. See ice maker not making ice.
Where in Northwest Jacksonville We Cover This
All three ZIPs, at the same price, with no travel surcharge, and with priority scheduling on anything holding food. Both of our tagged freezer calls came from 32208 — 32209 and 32220 have nothing on this page, which is a gap in our record rather than a claim about those neighbourhoods.
On the name: the Postal Service lists all three ZIPs as Jacksonville and nothing else, with Jax listed as a name to avoid. Northwest Jacksonville is the City of Jacksonville planning district name — the city runs Northwest as one of six planning districts for its Citizen Planning Advisory Committees — rather than a postal city.
| ZIP | Ice and freezer work on record | Water hardness | Land area |

Around Northwest Jacksonville
Ice and freezer work in the neighbouring districts is on its own pages, and several carry the same caution as this one. South-east across the Trout River is Riverside, Avondale and Springfield, where the only countertop ice machine in our Jacksonville book turned up.
North is Northside and Oceanway and south is Westside. East over the bridges is Arlington, where three ice maker replacements were hiding inside untagged tickets and one tagged job was a commercial freezer, and beyond it Atlantic Beach and Neptune Beach. Down the river are San Marco and San Jose, where we have never completed a paid ice job at all, and Mandarin.
In St. Johns County, Nocatee sits on the hardest water JEA publishes anywhere. The Northwest set starts at the Northwest Jacksonville appliance repair hub.
Repair or Replace
These two appliances pull in opposite directions. An ice maker inside a refrigerator at a $449 company median is money spent on a machine that otherwise works perfectly, and the honest alternative is not a new refrigerator but simply buying ice — which is what 37 percent of households quoted this work choose.
That is a legitimate decision and we will not push against it, but we will make sure you see the number before approving anything, and we will check the filter, the fill tube and the freezer temperature first because those are cheaper or free.
A standalone freezer is the clearest line we have anywhere: at $400 to $900 new, the $700 company median for a compressor is close enough that on a unit over ten years old we will say replace, while a defrost heater at $364, a gasket at $389, a thermostat at $390 or a fan at $396 are all comfortably worth doing. Framework: repair or replace guide.

Ice Maker and Freezer Repair in Northwest Jacksonville — Questions We Get
How much does ice maker or freezer repair cost in Northwest Jacksonville?
We will not quote a local median, because we hold two freezer jobs here and only one of them fitted a component. Budget from our company figures instead: $385 for freezer work with a part replaced across 2,269 repairs, with a middle half of $302 to $500, and $415 for ice maker work across 2,091 repairs.
By component: freezer defrost heater $364, door gasket $389, thermostat $390, fan $396, compressor $700; ice maker fill tube cleared $393, inlet valve $428, module $449, control board $488. Each figure is parts, labor and the service call together.
You say zero ice maker jobs. Are you sure that is not just missing paperwork?
Reasonably sure, and this is the one district where we can say that. Only 27.4 percent of tickets here fail to record which appliance was involved — our lowest anywhere, against 56.3 percent in Arlington and 46.7 in Riverside. We also read the written descriptions on the untagged tickets looking for hidden ice work and found none.
In Arlington that same exercise turned up three ice maker replacements buried in untagged invoices. So a zero here is closer to a real zero than the same number would be on our other pages. It means we have not been called, not that ice makers do not fail here.
Do you still cover this work here?
Yes, across all three ZIPs at exactly the same price as everywhere else, with no travel surcharge, the same $99 diagnostic applied to the repair and the same 90-day parts and labor warranty.
Anything holding food takes priority in our schedule. What we do not have is enough completed local work to quote a median from, so rather than invent one we have said so and used company figures built on thousands of repairs.
My standalone freezer has stopped freezing. Repair or replace?
It depends entirely on whether the sealed system is involved, and this is the clearest line on any appliance we service. If it is the defrost heater at $364, the door gasket at $389, the thermostat at $390 or the evaporator fan at $396, repair wins comfortably against a replacement chest or upright at roughly $400 to $900.
If it is the compressor, our company median is $700 across 107 jobs — close enough to a new freezer that on a unit over about ten years old we will usually tell you to replace it before you have to ask. Company-wide the freezer is where the repair total comes closest to the price of a new machine, and the compressor is why.
My ice cubes are small and hollow. What causes that?
Restricted water flow, almost every time — the mould is not filling completely before the harvest cycle runs. Work through it in this order and the first three are free. Reseat the water filter until it clicks and turns to its stop, then run several litres through.
Check the shut-off valve on the supply line under the sink or behind the machine is fully open. Put a thermometer in the freezer, because below about 10°F the cycle slows. If all three are right, the fill tube is starting to ice up, which we clear at a company median of $393, or the inlet valve is failing, at $428.
Does hard water really matter for an ice maker?
More than for any other appliance, because the ice maker handles the largest volume of water through the narrowest passages: a fill tube a few millimetres across, a solenoid valve cycling many times a day, and a mould that freezes and thaws continuously.
JEA publishes hardness by ZIP and all three here are classified Very Hard — 270 parts per million or 16 grains per gallon in 32220, 248 ppm in 32209 and 229 ppm in 32208 — with no softening step anywhere in JEA treatment.
Practically that means filters and fill tubes need attention sooner than the manual suggests, and inlet valves are a wear part rather than a lifetime one.
I am out toward the western end. How fast can you get to a failing freezer?
Freezer calls take priority over everything else we do, wherever they are, because food loss runs on a clock. It is worth knowing the geography though: 32220 covers 38.574 square miles of largely rural western Duval County, more than three times the area of 32208 and four times 32209.
There is no travel surcharge, but if you are toward the western edge, book early in the day so the van can route to you rather than fit you in around city addresses. If a chest freezer full of food is at risk, say so when you book and move what you can in the meantime.
