What the Samsung ticket does tell you is that it sits comfortably inside our company freezer range, whose middle half runs $302 to $500 — so nothing unusual is happening to freezer pricing in this district, there is simply very little of it on our books.
The filter is the first check and the most common thing we find FREE · SIXTY SECONDS
On any refrigerator with a water line, a filter that is merely tight rather than fully seated behaves exactly like a blockage — reduced flow first, then small or hollow cubes, then no ice at all. Push it in until it clicks and turns to its stop, then run several litres through the dispenser to purge the air out of the line.

Two local invoices do ice work without carrying an ice tag. One at $505 replaced a dishwasher heating element and a refrigerator ice maker on the same visit. Another at $550 is logged as ice dispenser door maintenance, tagged both dishwasher and refrigerator. Neither appears in the three-job count above.

- No ice at all, water dispenser still works — the ice maker module at $449, or the arm switched off. If the water side works, the supply is fine and the fault is in the maker itself. Company-wide, no ice at all is 348 repairs at a $420 median.

- Small, hollow or cloudy cubes — restricted flow. Filter, a partly closed shut-off valve, or a fill tube starting to ice up. Clearing a frozen fill tube is $393 company-wide, the cheapest thing on the ice table.

My ice cubes are small and hollow. What causes that?
Restricted water flow, almost every time — the mould is not filling completely before the harvest cycle runs. Work through it in this order and the first three are free. Reseat the water filter until it clicks and turns to its stop, then run several litres through.
Check the shut-off valve on the supply line under the sink or behind the machine is fully open. Put a thermometer in the freezer, because below about 10°F the cycle slows.
