3. The shutoff arm or sensor. Every ice maker has a way of knowing the bin is full — a wire arm on older units, an infrared beam on newer ones. A bag of frozen food leaning on the arm, or a frosted-over sensor eye, tells the machine to stop making ice, and it obeys. Clear the bin, wipe the sensor window, wait an hour.

Why the ice maker is usually a symptom, not the disease
Look at the component list again and notice how few of those parts belong to the ice maker itself. The defrost heater, the evaporator fan, the thermostat and the control board are all refrigerator parts.
