Appliance repair in central Charlotte runs a median of $334 once a part is replaced, with the middle half of jobs between $283 and $415. That comes from 132 work orders inside ZIP codes 28205, 28202 and 28209 — 105 paid visits and 69 jobs where a real component came out of the van.

Two findings separate this area from the rest of our Charlotte work. The dishwasher is the second machine here, ahead of the washer, which happens nowhere else in our book. And across eight paid dryer visits, every one ended with a part fitted.

Appliance Repair — Central Charlotte, 28205, 28202 and 28209

One number covers all three ZIP codes at the same price list, with no travel charge between them. Thirty-nine of these 132 jobs are from the last twelve months. The $99 diagnostic is applied to the repair when you approve it, and every completed job carries a 90-day parts and labor warranty.

What Appliance Repair Costs Here, by Machine

Every figure below is the full ticket — part, labour and the service call together — which is the number that lands on your bill rather than the price of a component on a parts website. The source column says whether the median comes from our own jobs in these three ZIP codes or from the whole company, and the job count tells you how much weight it carries.

Where the local sample is too thin to publish we say so in the row rather than dressing it up.

💡 The washer line needs explaining, because $427 above a company figure of $370 is not what it looks like. Three of those seven local invoices are $455, $455 and $450, and two of the $455 jobs are stacked washer-dryer units — which carry a $150 service call rather than $99 because two machines share one cabinet and both must be assessed. One of them also names a Whirlpool stove on the same work order, so it is a combined visit. Stacked laundry is normal in this housing stock, and that is the honest reason this line runs high. Full detail on the washer page.

Two other rows carry caveats. The oven median of $332 rests on five local component jobs, thin enough that the company figure of $380 is equally reasonable to budget against.

And the ice maker and freezer row has no local component work at all — one call in three years and it did not reach a paid repair — so the company numbers are the only honest thing to quote there. The dryer, dishwasher and refrigerator lines are the ones with real local samples behind them.

Why Central Charlotte Appliances Fail the Way They Do

The dishwasher outranks the washer, which happens nowhere else 21.0 PERCENT AGAINST 18.5

Of the 81 jobs here where the paperwork names an appliance, 30 are refrigerators, 17 dishwashers and 15 washers. Company-wide the order is refrigerator 37.2 percent, washer 22.4, dishwasher 14.8 — the washer always sits second. In these three ZIP codes it does not.

At 21.0 percent against 14.8 the dishwasher runs well above its national share, and the two Bosch and one KitchenAid machines in the local book point at fitted apartment and condominium kitchens rather than builder-grade ones. Detail on the dishwasher page.

Not one wasted dryer visit in three years 0 OF 8 PAID VISITS

Every single paid dryer visit in these ZIP codes ended with a part being replaced. All eight visits ended with a part fitted, against a company-wide dryer figure of 79.5 percent that is already the highest of any appliance we service.

Eight paid visits is a small base and the number will rise the first time somebody calls us about a full lint filter — but it is the cleanest figure on this whole site, and eight of the nine dryer jobs are from the last twelve months, so it is current. The dryer is the machine here where booking is most likely to be worth it.

The densest housing we work in, by a wide margin 28202: 16,447 PEOPLE IN 1.8 SQUARE MILES

28202 is Charlotte uptown core, 1.804 square miles holding 16,447 people at 71.40 percent renter-occupied and an average household size of 1.51 people, per zip-codes.com. 28205 sits immediately east and 28209 immediately south, at 57.48 and 52.04 percent rented. Across the cluster that is 45,766 housing units in 19.1 square miles — roughly three times the density of our Steele Creek route.

High-rise and mid-rise housing changes the practical side of a service call more than the price: lift access, loading-dock booking, closet laundry and stacked units are all normal here.

Samsung and GE split the book, and a Speed Queen turns up 40 OF 76 BRANDED

Of 76 branded work orders: Samsung 20, GE 20, Frigidaire 11, Whirlpool 7, Maytag 5, Kenmore 3, LG 3, KitchenAid 2, Bosch 2, and one each of Amana, Electrolux and Speed Queen. Samsung and GE tie at the top with 20 apiece. The Speed Queen is worth a mention: it is a commercial-grade laundry brand, the kind of machine specified for shared or building laundry rather than a single household.

This is a record of how often we are called to a brand, not a reliability ranking — that question is on most reliable appliance brands.

69 of our 105 paid visits in these three ZIP codes ended with a real part replaced. Same price list across uptown and both inner-ring ZIP codes. Book online or call (252) 629-9832.

Housing and tenure figures come from zip-codes.com; the job columns are ours. Two things stand out. The three medians are $318, $334 and $334 across ZIP codes whose median home values are $457,200, $623,000 and $443,500 — a 40 percent spread in house prices producing a five percent spread in the repair bill, which is the sixth market where we have run that comparison and got the same answer.

And the part-fitted share barely moves either, 26.8 to 28.9 percent, in an area where the rental share ranges from 52 to 71 percent. What you pay is set by the component and the labour hour, not the address or the tenure.

What the Cluster Covers

The three ZIP codes hold 90,883 people and 45,766 housing units across 19.1 square miles at the centre of Mecklenburg County. 28202 is the uptown core itself, just 1.8 square miles of mostly high-rise and mid-rise housing; 28205 lies immediately east of it and 28209 immediately south, both inner-ring and both majority rented.

All 132 of our work orders here are addressed simply to Charlotte, because the Postal Service gives none of these three ZIP codes an accepted alternative city name.

There is no travel surcharge between any two addresses in the cluster, and distances are short — but building access is the variable that matters here, so tell us at booking if there is a lift, a loading dock or a service entrance we should use. Coverage across the rest of the metro is on the Charlotte locations page.

Match Your Machine to the Right Page

  • Not drying in one cycle, no heat at all, drum will not turn — 9 local jobs and not one wasted paid visit in three years, at a median of $289. This is the call most likely to be worth making here. Go to dryer repair in central Charlotte.
  • Fresh food warming while the freezer stays cold, frost on the back wall, no ice — 30 local jobs, the deepest sample here, median $385 with a part and a long tail. Go to refrigerator repair.
  • Not draining, not cleaning, leaking at the door — 17 local jobs, the second machine in this cluster, median $290. Go to dishwasher repair.
  • Will not spin, will not drain, stacked unit in a closet — 15 local jobs, and the line where stacked-unit pricing matters most. Read the note on washer repair before you compare quotes.
  • Oven runs hot or cold, burner will not light, bake element out — 9 local jobs and 62.5 percent of paid visits ended with a part fitted. Run the free thermometer test on the oven and range page first.
  • Ice maker stopped, chest or upright freezer not freezing — one call in three years and no component work, so that page runs entirely on company figures. Go to ice maker and freezer repair.
Two checks before any call. First, a thermometer left inside the fridge for a few hours beats the display on the door — 37 to 40°F in the fresh food section and 0°F in the freezer. Second, pull the machine out and look: a condenser coil packed with dust imitates a dying compressor, a kinked drain hose imitates a failed pump, and a blocked dryer vent imitates a burnt-out heating element — though in this housing stock the vent often runs through the building rather than straight out, so watch the outside flap if you can see it. Seventy-six of our 105 paid visits here ended with a part fitted.

Three entries repay a second look. Samsung and GE tie at 20 apiece, which is unusual — in most of our clusters one brand runs clear. The two LG refrigerators are both at the very top of our local price range, $825 and $855, which is sealed-system territory and the reason the refrigerator page has the tail it does.

And the Speed Queen is a commercial-grade laundry brand, specified for shared or building laundry rather than a single household — the kind of machine that only turns up in dense housing like this. Everything else on the list has parts that ride on the van.

Repair or Replace, in Central Charlotte Numbers

At a median of $334 with a part replaced, repair wins comfortably on almost everything here — a mid-market washer, dryer or dishwasher delivered, installed and hauled away runs several times that, and in a high-rise the delivery itself is harder and dearer than in a house.

Two situations genuinely turn. Sealed-system refrigerator work at a company median of $956 for a compressor, where close to half the households we quote go ahead; both of our $800-plus local jobs are that shape.

And a large repair on a machine that came with a rented apartment, where the person paying may reasonably prefer a replacement — we put both numbers in front of whoever is paying rather than selling the first one.

Our framework is the repair or replace guide, with expected service life in how long refrigerators last.

Appliance Repair in Central Charlotte — Questions We Get

How much does appliance repair cost in central Charlotte?

The median is $334 once a part is replaced, parts and labour and the service call together, with the middle half of jobs between $283 and $415. That comes from 69 component replacements out of 105 paid visits across ZIP codes 28205, 28202 and 28209.

By machine our local medians are $289 for a dryer, $290 for a dishwasher, $332 for an oven, $385 for a refrigerator and $427 for a washer — that last one is inflated by stacked-unit service calls and is explained on the washer page.

Why is your local washer figure above your company average?

Because three of the seven local washer invoices are stacked or combined jobs. Two of them are stacked washer-dryer units at $455 each, which carry a $150 service call rather than $99 because two machines share one cabinet and both have to be assessed, and one of those also names a Whirlpool stove on the same work order.

Stacked laundry is normal in this housing stock. Strip the stacked-unit premium out and the picture looks like our company figure of $370 rather than above it.

Why is the dishwasher such a big share of your work here?

Of 81 classified jobs in these ZIP codes, 17 are dishwashers and 15 are washers — 21.0 percent against 18.5. Company-wide the washer always sits second at 22.4 percent against 14.8 for the dishwasher, so this is the only cluster in our book where that order reverses.

The local brand list points at fitted apartment and condominium kitchens: two Bosch and one KitchenAid dishwashers appear here, platforms that are rare in the builder-grade housing we work elsewhere in the city.

What do I pay if the machine does not need a part?

Twenty-nine of 105 paid visits, which is 27.6 percent against 36.9 percent company-wide — one of the better rates in our Charlotte work. By machine it runs 0.0 percent on dryers across eight paid visits, 29.2 percent on refrigerators, 33.3 on dishwashers, 37.5 on ovens and 38.5 on washers.

In those cases you pay the $99 diagnostic and nothing else. The checks most likely to keep you out of that group are a thermometer reading rather than a door display, and clearing a coil, filter or drain hose.

Do you work in high-rise and uptown buildings?

Yes, and it is most of what 28202 is — 16,447 people in 1.804 square miles at 71.40 percent renter-occupied, per zip-codes.com, which is the densest housing we work in anywhere.

Building access is the practical variable rather than the price: tell us at booking whether there is a service lift, a loading dock or a management office that needs to authorise entry, and whether the laundry is a stacked unit in a closet. None of that changes the price list, but it changes how long we allow for the visit.

Which appliance brands do you see most here?

Of 76 branded work orders: Samsung 20, GE 20, Frigidaire 11, Whirlpool 7, Maytag 5, Kenmore 3, LG 3, KitchenAid 2, Bosch 2, and one each of Amana, Electrolux and Speed Queen. Samsung and GE tie at the top, which is unusual.

The three LG jobs include both of our $800-plus refrigerator tickets, and the Speed Queen is a commercial-grade laundry brand specified for shared building laundry. This reflects how often we are called to a brand rather than how reliable it is.

Is there a busy season for breakdowns here?

Not one we can prove from this pool. Across years our 132 jobs run 32 in 2023, 45 in 2024, 27 in 2025 and 28 so far in 2026, and inside those years several months have no jobs at all while others have eleven.

A gap of a whole month is a record of where our vans were routed, not of when machines stopped working, so any month-by-month claim built on this pool would be describing our own scheduling. We will publish a seasonal answer for this area after a clean full year of even coverage.

How quickly can you get to an address here?

Same-day is realistic if you book early in the day, and refrigerator and freezer calls get priority over everything else because food loss is on the clock. Distances are short — the whole cluster is 19.1 square miles — so travel time is rarely the constraint.

Building access usually is: a service lift booking or a management office signature can add more time than the drive across town, which is why we ask about it when you book. There is no travel surcharge anywhere inside the cluster.
