Three checks separate “working hard” from “broken”.
Put a thermometer in the freezer for two hours. Ice needs 0°F or below. If it reads warmer, the ice maker is innocent and the question is why the compartment is not cold enough — which is a refrigeration question with a different answer and a different price.
Clean the condenser coil and check the clearance. Behind the lower front grille or on the back panel. A coil with a felt of dust on it is thermally insulated, and in a tight recess that is the difference between coping in summer and not. Fifteen minutes with a vacuum and a soft brush.
Check the door seals with a banknote. Close the door on a bill so half sticks out and pull. If it slides free with no drag, that stretch of gasket is letting warm humid air in continuously, which loads the system all day and shows up first as less ice.
