Dishwasher Repair Hialeah FL
Dishwasher repair runs a median of $338 across our 2,684 completed dishwasher repairs, with the middle half between $275 and $419. The largest dishwasher invoice on our Hialeah file is a circulation pump replacement at $465, and that is a useful place to begin, because almost every homeowner thinks a dishwasher has one pump.
It has two. One washes and one drains, they fail differently, they cost different amounts, and telling them apart from the symptom alone takes about ten seconds once you know how. This page covers that, plus the six checks that resolve most dishwasher complaints before a technician is needed at all.

What a Dishwasher Repair Costs, by Part
Each row is a median across our completed dishwasher repairs where that component was the one replaced, with the part, the labour and the service call added together rather than a parts price with the real cost hidden behind it.
| Component replaced | Median, part and labor and call | Jobs (n) | Usual symptom |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spray arm | $283 | 12 | Top rack or one section not cleaning |
| Door latch or switch | $312 | 28 | Will not start, or stops mid-cycle |
| Door gasket or seal | $330 | 42 | Water on the floor at the door |
| Water inlet valve | $340 | 37 | Not filling, or filling continuously |
| Drain pump | $350 | 273 | Standing water at the end of a cycle |
| Heating element | $362 | 40 | Dishes wet at the end, poor cleaning |
| Circulation motor | $374 | 122 | Runs but does not wash |
| Control board | $387 | 93 | Dead panel, blinking lights, error code |
| Detergent dispenser | $423 | 27 | Detergent still in the cup afterwards |
By symptom the medians run $325 for a machine that will not drain across 416 jobs, $340 for leaking across 331, $348 for poor cleaning across 112, $360 for poor drying, $362 for one that will not start and $380 for noise. The whole city price map is on appliance repair in Hialeah.

Your Dishwasher Has Two Pumps, Not One
This is the most useful thing on the page, because it turns a vague complaint into a specific one before anybody is dispatched — and because the two pumps sit at different points on the price list.
The circulation pump is the one that washes. It sits under the tub and takes water from the sump, pushes it up through the spray arms at pressure, and does that continuously through the wash and rinse phases.
It is the entire cleaning mechanism of the appliance: without it the machine fills, heats, runs its timer and empties, and the dishes come out exactly as they went in. This is the part our local Hialeah invoice replaced.
The drain pump is the one that empties. It runs only in short bursts at the end of each phase, pushing waste water out through the hose into your sink drain or disposal. It is smaller, simpler and cheaper — $350 against $374 — and it is the most replaced dishwasher part in our entire book, because it is the one that meets whatever fell off the plates.
The symptoms are opposite, which makes them easy to separate. Open the machine mid-cycle, carefully, and look:
A failed circulation pump leaves the machine full of water and quiet. There is water in the tub, the cycle is running, but you cannot hear the rushing sound of spray hitting the door, and at the end of the cycle the dishes are dirty but the tub has drained normally. The machine is doing everything except washing.
A failed drain pump leaves standing water at the end. The dishes may well be clean. The cycle completes, the machine beeps, you open it, and there is a pool in the bottom that will not go anywhere. Everything worked except the emptying.
Clean dishes and standing water means the drain side. Dirty dishes and an empty tub means the wash side. That single sentence is worth quoting when you book.
There is one thing that damages both, and it is the reason to check the sump after any breakage: a hard fragment — broken glass, an olive stone, a chip of bone — gets past the filter and reaches an impeller. Circulation impellers are more delicate and spin far longer per cycle, which is why glass in the sump tends to end up on the more expensive row.
What Makes Dishwasher Repair in Hialeah Its Own Market
The fault is often outside the appliance THE SHARED DRAIN
A dishwasher is the only kitchen appliance that shares its plumbing with something else. Its drain hose rises to a high point — a loop under the counter or an air gap on the sink deck — then connects either to the side of the garbage disposal or into the sink line before the trap.
Everything after the pump is shared with your sink, which gives four failure points outside the machine, all of which look exactly like a broken dishwasher and all of which are free to check. They are listed below.
Compact kitchens mean access is part of the job SAY SO AT BOOKING
Hialeah fits roughly 223,000 people into 21.58 square miles, so galley kitchens and tight cabinet runs are common. On this appliance that matters, because almost every repair begins by turning off the water and power, removing the toe kick, releasing the mounting brackets and drawing the machine forward — and in a narrow galley there may not be room to bring it fully out without moving something first.
It does not change the price, but it changes how long the slot needs to be. Mention it when you book.
Hard water is a weaker explanation than people assume RO AND COUNTY SUPPLY
The Hialeah Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment plant, jointly owned with Miami-Dade County, draws from the Floridan Aquifer — a much deeper formation with consistently high quality source water — and serves the north west of the city at 7.5 million gallons a day, while most of the rest of the city’s water is purchased from Miami-Dade, pumped from the Biscayne Aquifer and treated at county facilities.
The city publishes no hardness figure so we quote none, but film on glassware here is far more often detergent quantity, an empty rinse aid reservoir or a wash that never got hot enough than it is mineral deposit.
The quietest appliance in the kitchen hides its faults NOISE AT $380
Modern dishwashers are engineered to be inaudible, and that works against you: a bearing starting to go, a spray arm catching on a rack or a piece of glass rattling in the sump are noticeable only because the machine is normally silent. Noise jobs run a $380 median across 93 repairs.
If yours has started making a sound it never made, that is a real signal rather than a quirk — and on this appliance a new noise very often means something hard has reached a pump.
Leaks at the door versus leaks underneath DIFFERENT REPAIRS
Where the water appears tells the technician which job it is before the machine comes out. Water down the front of the door is the door gasket at $330, and on many machines the small gasket at the bottom corners fails first while the rest of the seal is fine.
Water appearing from under the toe kick with a dry door is a pump seal, a hose connection or the sump, which means drawing the machine out of the run. Say which of the two you see, because it decides how the visit is scheduled.
Storm season still reaches the board $387
A dishwasher control board sits behind the door panel, directly above a cavity that fills with steam several times a week, in a kitchen that is already warm and humid. It is $387 across 93 jobs, and the symptom is a dead panel, blinking lights, or a cycle that will not start after a storm.
Before booking anything, kill the breaker for five full minutes rather than opening and closing the door repeatedly, because a board holding a bad state after an interruption looks identical to a failed one and clears with a genuine cold start. More on that in smart appliance and control board repair.
Standing Water or Dirty Dishes?
Two different pumps, two different repairs — say which and the visit gets shorter.
Six Checks the Technician Runs First on a Dishwasher That Will Not Drain
Standing water is the most common dishwasher complaint we see, 416 jobs at a $325 median — and it is also the one most likely to have an answer that costs nothing. Work through these in order before assuming the pump.
One, run the garbage disposal with cold water. On most installations the dishwasher drains into the disposal chamber, so a chamber packed with waste blocks it completely. Thirty seconds, and it resolves a real share of calls.
Two, check the disposal knockout plug. A new disposal ships with the dishwasher inlet sealed by a plug that must be punched out during installation. If it was not, the dishwasher can never drain, and the machine is blameless. This catches people whose disposal was replaced the same week their dishwasher “failed”.
Three, clean the air gap. That small chrome cylinder next to the tap exists to stop dirty sink water siphoning back into the machine, and it clogs. Unscrew the cap and clear the debris. Two minutes, no tools.
Four, test the sink itself. If your sink also drains slowly, the blockage is in the line both appliances share and the dishwasher is reporting a plumbing fault rather than an appliance one.
Five, remove and rinse the filter. Most machines built in the last decade have a manual filter at the floor of the tub that unscrews and is designed to be cleaned by the owner. Many people have never been told it exists.
Six, feel into the sump beneath it. Broken glass, fruit stickers and olive stones collect there, and a hard fragment is what chips or jams a pump impeller. Put a towel and shallow tray down first, because water will come out.
Only after all six is the drain pump at $350 the answer — and it is our most replaced dishwasher part at 273 jobs, so sometimes it genuinely is. But a pump fitted to a machine with a blocked air gap will present the identical symptom the following week.
Why Dishes Come Out Dirty When Nothing Is Broken
Poor cleaning runs a $348 median across 112 jobs, but it is also the complaint most often cured by something free, and every cause below is free to correct.
The water is not hot enough at the tap. A dishwasher heats its own water but starts from whatever the supply gives it, and if the kitchen tap is far from the heater the machine begins the cycle cold and spends the wash catching up.
Run the hot tap at the sink until it is genuinely hot, then start the dishwasher. This is the single most effective free fix on the list.
Rinse aid is empty. Rinse aid does most of the work of sheeting water off glass so it dries clear. An empty reservoir shows up as spots and film that look exactly like a mineral problem and are not.
Too much detergent. Excess detergent does not rinse away cleanly, leaving a film that people then treat by adding more.
The spray arms cannot turn. Spin each one by hand with the racks loaded as you normally load them. A tall item through the top rack, a baking tray laid flat or a handle hanging down will stop an arm dead, and a stopped arm cleans nothing above it. Hold them up to the light too — the pattern of clean and dirty dishes will match the blocked holes exactly.
If all four are ruled out and dishes are still dirty while the tub drains normally, that is the circulation side: the pump at the local $465 our file records, the circulation motor at $374, or a spray arm at $283.
What the Technician Checks First on a Dishwasher
The sequence is built to exhaust free answers before touching a part, and it starts by placing the complaint into one of four families.
Will not drain. Disposal, knockout plug, air gap, sink line, filter, sump, and then the pump. Six of the seven cost nothing, and the order is not arbitrary: a pump fitted to a machine whose air gap is blocked will present the identical symptom the following week.
Will not clean. Incoming water temperature at the tap, then rinse aid and detergent quantity, then the spray arms turned by hand and held to the light, then the filter, and only then the circulation side — motor, pump and impeller.
Leaking. Where the water appears decides everything. Down the front means the door gasket at $330 and the machine may not need to come out at all. From under the toe kick with a dry door means a pump seal, a hose connection or the sump, which does mean drawing the machine out of the run — and in a tight galley kitchen that is the step worth planning for.
Will not run. The door latch and its switch first, because a latch that no longer makes contact is both the most common cause and among the cheapest parts at $312. Then the power supply, then the board at $387.
One habit worth adopting whichever branch you are on: note whether the fault happens every cycle or only some. A machine that drains on a short cycle but not a long one, or cleans acceptably on heavy wash and badly on eco, is telling us something a technician standing in front of it for twenty minutes may never see. Our general method is on how technicians diagnose appliances.
Four Checks the Technician Runs First on an Dishwasher
- Open the machine mid-cycle and listen. You should hear water being thrown against the door with real force. Silence with a full tub is the circulation side; that one observation separates the two pumps.
- Run the disposal, then clear the air gap. Two minutes and no tools, and between them they resolve a meaningful share of no-drain calls before anybody is dispatched.
- Take out the filter and check the sump. Rinse the filter with a soft brush, then reach into the recess beneath and feel for glass, stones and stickers — the things that kill both pumps.
- Kill the breaker for five full minutes. Not the door, not the cancel button. A control board holding a bad state after a storm produces a dead panel or a stuck cycle that is indistinguishable from a failed board and clears with a genuine cold start.
Match Your Dishwasher Symptom to the Likely Cause
- Clean dishes but standing water at the end. Drain side. Work the six checks, then the pump at $350.
- Dirty dishes but the tub drains normally. Wash side. Circulation pump or motor, or a spray arm that cannot turn.
- Full tub and no sound of spraying mid-cycle. Circulation pump — the machine is doing everything except washing.
- Grinding or rattling that started after a glass broke. Fragment in the sump or an impeller. Stop using it and check the filter.
- Will not start, no lights. Door latch or switch at $312, then the board at $387 — after the breaker interruption.
- Starts then stops partway through. Door latch losing contact as the panel warms and expands, or a thermal fault.
- Water on the floor down the front of the door. Door gasket at $330, often failing at the bottom corners first.
- Water appearing under the toe kick, door dry. Pump seal, a hose connection or the sump.
- Never fills at all. Water inlet valve at $340, or a closed supply valve under the sink.
- Dishes wet at the end of the cycle. Heating element at $362, or simply an empty rinse aid reservoir.
- Detergent still sitting in the cup afterwards. Dispenser at $423, or something in the rack blocking the door from opening.
- Film or cloudiness on glassware. Detergent quantity, rinse aid or wash temperature before mineral.
Repair or Replace a Dishwasher in Hialeah
This decision favours repair more consistently than on any other appliance, for a reason specific to how dishwashers are installed. The component list runs $283 to $423 with labour and the service call already inside, so almost any single fault is a fraction of a replacement once delivery, disposal of the old machine and installation are counted.
And installation is not a delivery: the machine is plumbed to a supply, wired to a circuit, connected into the drain path, and levelled and secured to the counter. In a compact Hialeah kitchen there is an additional argument people rarely consider — the existing machine already fits the opening and the existing plumbing, and older cabinet runs are not always the standard width a modern appliance expects.
Even the circulation pump at the local $465 our file records is comfortably inside that logic on a machine that is otherwise sound. The honest exception is a machine past its service life presenting a second major fault, particularly a pump on top of an earlier board or motor, and we will say so plainly rather than quoting the work.
Typical service lives are on how long dishwashers last, the general framework on the repair versus replacement guide, and the cleaning diagnosis in full on why a dishwasher stops cleaning.

Dishwasher Repair in Hialeah — Questions We Get
How much does dishwasher repair cost in Hialeah?
The median is $338 across our 2,684 completed dishwasher repairs, with the middle half between $275 and $419.
By component the medians run $283 on a spray arm, $312 on a door latch or switch, $330 on a door gasket, $340 on a water inlet valve, $350 on a drain pump, $362 on a heating element, $374 on a circulation motor, $387 on a control board and $423 on a detergent dispenser.
Our largest local Hialeah invoice is a circulation pump replacement at $465. Every figure includes the part, the labor and the service call together.
What is the difference between the circulation pump and the drain pump?
They do opposite jobs and they produce opposite symptoms. The circulation pump takes water from the sump and pushes it up through the spray arms at pressure, continuously through the wash and rinse — it is the entire cleaning mechanism, so when it fails the machine fills, heats, runs its timer, drains normally, and the dishes come out exactly as they went in.
The drain pump runs only in short bursts at the end of each phase to push waste water out, so when it fails the dishes may be perfectly clean but there is a pool in the bottom that will not go anywhere. Clean dishes plus standing water means the drain side; dirty dishes plus an empty tub means the wash side.
There is standing water in the bottom. Is the pump gone?
Check six things first, because a large share of no-drain calls are not faults inside the dishwasher. Run the garbage disposal with cold water, since the machine drains into it on most installations. Check the disposal knockout plug was punched out during installation, because if it was not the dishwasher can never drain.
Unscrew and clear the air gap on the sink deck. Test whether the sink itself drains slowly, which would mean a shared plumbing blockage. Remove and rinse the filter at the floor of the tub. Then feel into the sump beneath it for glass and stones.
Only after all six is the drain pump at $350 the answer — though it is our most replaced dishwasher part at 273 jobs.
A glass broke inside. Does that matter?
Yes, and it is one of the commonest routes to an expensive dishwasher repair. Fragments fall into the sump at the bottom of the tub, and both pumps have impellers that a hard piece of glass will chip or jam.
The circulation impeller is the more delicate of the two and it spins far longer per cycle, which is why glass in the sump tends to end up on the more expensive row — the circulation pump rather than the drain pump.
If a glass breaks in your machine, remove the filter and check the sump before running another cycle. The same applies to olive stones, bones and fruit stickers, which is why scraping solids off plates matters far more than pre-rinsing them.
Is hard water making my glasses cloudy?
It is a weaker explanation here than most people assume. The Hialeah Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment plant, jointly owned by the City of Hialeah and Miami-Dade County, obtains water from the Floridan Aquifer — a much deeper aquifer with consistently high quality source water — and serves the north west of the city at 7.5 million gallons a day.
Most of the rest of the city’s water is purchased from Miami-Dade County, pumped from the Biscayne Aquifer and treated at county facilities before distribution. The city publishes no hardness figure so we do not quote one, but film on glassware here is far more often too much detergent, an empty rinse aid reservoir, or a wash that never reached temperature.
The dishes come out dirty. What should I try first?
Four free things in this order. Run the hot tap at the kitchen sink until the water is genuinely hot, then start the dishwasher, because the machine begins with whatever the supply gives it. Top up the rinse aid. Use less detergent rather than more, since excess does not rinse away and leaves the film people then treat by adding more.
And spin both spray arms by hand with the racks loaded as you normally load them, holding them up to the light to check the holes are clear. If all four are ruled out and the tub still drains normally, that is the circulation side — the pump, the circulation motor at $374, or a spray arm at $283.
My kitchen is very tight. Does that affect the repair?
It affects the appointment rather than the price. Almost every dishwasher repair begins by turning off the water and power, removing the toe kick, releasing the mounting brackets and drawing the machine forward — and in a narrow galley kitchen there may not be room to bring it fully out without moving something first.
That does not change what the job costs, but it does change how long the slot needs to be, so mention it when you book. It also helps to clear the cabinet under the sink beforehand, because the supply valve and the drain connection both live behind whatever is stored there.
