How Long Frozen Food Lasts
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, a full freezer kept closed holds food safely for about 48 hours without power or cooling, and a half-full one about 24 hours. Items still holding ice crystals, or at no more than 40°F, are safe to refreeze. A closed refrigerator compartment lasts about four hours, and perishables above 40°F for more than two hours should be thrown away.
